Ship PELEGRIN

“A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
- William Shedd –

PELEGRIN (built 1912) is one of a kind!
She is one of the world's oldest sailing ships still in operation
AND you can spend holidays on board.

History

Discover a touch of “pirate romance” aboard PELEGRIN.

PELEGRIN is a classic sailing boat of the type BRIGANTINE*).

The original ship (for the transport of large wine barrels) was built in Croatia in 1912 with a very solid construction from oak and mahogany wood. She was renovated from the ground up (by the ship lover Günter Bungartz) with the same materials (1989/1990) and at the same time converted into a BRIGANTINE.

Annual maintenance work conducted by specialists, as well as the loving care given by professional skipper Leja, have ensured that the 112-year-old PELEGRIN (meaning “the globetrotter”) is in impeccable condition. This gives our guests absolute security, a pleasing sense of comfort and an unforgettable sense of “pirate romance”.

*) The BRIGANTINE is a sailing ship with two masts.
There are square sails on the fore-mast and a fore-and-aft rig on the main-mast (so a total of 10 sails). As a result, this type of ship is quite agile. It was used from the 16th century in the Mediterranean region as a small warship (also called “pirate ship”).

Good to know:
PELEGRIN is one of the most photographed ships in the Ionian Sea. In the high season, guests can feel a little like they are in “Disney World”.

Classic luxury

The 112-year-old PELEGRIN offers a kind of “classic luxury” – just like in the good old days:

It's less about the destination than the journey itself... we move slowly... we take our time... we enjoy ourselves... we remove ourselves from the stresses of everyday life...

Our guests have described being onboard as “luxury camping at sea”.

The PELEGRIN cabins are lovingly furnished.
Many people have said that their nights onboard are like “being in seventh heaven”.

PELEGRIN has two spacious decks
that offer much more privacy than the modern luxury cruise ships.

PELEGRIN has an onboard travel companion (co-skipper) so that you feel completely at ease.

Holidays aboard PELEGRIN are an unforgettable experience – even for those who live in the lap of luxury (despite having only one – albeit very comfortable – shower cubicle for all the guests).

Tip:

To feel comfortable as a guest on the classic PELEGRIN, it is helpful if you identify with the following traits:

uncomplicated... communicative... pleasure-seeking... likes to travel... versatile... good-humoured... creative... open-minded... tolerant... eager for knowledge... water-loving...
